Situation Analysis

The thorough analysis conducted to know about the situation of Burberry covers both micro and macro environmental factors (Batinelli et al., 2023). This analysis aims to reveal the remarkable factors that determine the position of the brand in the fashion industry.

Micro Environment:

The microenvironment is considered as the factor that affects the decision-making ability and performance of the organisation. Saura et al. (2022), illustrated that microenvironments include the competitors, suppliers, customers and marketing intermediaries and publics. So, to maintain its worth in the industry, it is important for Burberry to understand the needs of customers and prefer the suppliers who provide sustainable raw material.

Competitor Analysis:

For organizations to enhance the competitive edge and win customer loyalty then focus on the competitors is important. It is because customers always compare products of two or three brands and then make the buying decision (Wang et al., 2022) . Therefore, to improve its followers base, Burberry first has to analyse the competitors, their products, prices and then launch its products that become customer preference.

Customer Analysis:

The customer analysis is about understanding the customers’ interest in the brand. The microenvironment aspect helps the company to understand the demands of the consumers. According to Clarke et al. (2022), a customer-focused strategy can help in knowing the plans of the company to meet organisational goals.

Macro Environment:

The macro-environment factors are the external factors like political, legal or environmental aspects. It is important for the organisation to focus on the political factors and social frameworks (D Atoma and Leva, 2022). The PESTLE analysis can be important for the organisation to understand and align with external market factors.

Internet-Specific SWOT Analysis:

A SWOT analysis of the digital environment helps in understanding the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. According to Wang et al. (2023),  the strength is the reputation of the company, and the weakness is the improvement required by the brand. Burberry has a strong market position, which is its strength. The high prices are the weakness of the company, and it has an opportunity to improve its worth by focusing on the use of digital technology. Furthermore, the risk of competitors is a threat for Burberry that can be reduced by improving the product range and ensuring sustainable products that are the preference of the new generation.

Stakeholder Analysis:

A detailed analysis includes customers, competitors and  the extensive network of stakeholders. Distributors, suppliers and general public are all included in this network (Kaur et al., 2022). A company can improve its reputation by following moral principles and by working to satisfy expectations and solve the issues of the stakeholders.

Objectives

According to a thorough analysis, the objectives of Burberry are consistent with the RACE Framework (Reach, Act, Convert, Engage) and the 5 Ss Framework (Sell, Speak, Save, Sizzle). These objectives are divided into short, medium and long term goals and are referred to as SMART, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. (Damari et al., 2018)

Short-Term Objectives (6-12 months):

Sell:  Within the next six months, online sales  must increase by 15%. This can be done by  improving the e-commerce system, simplifying the payment method and by different promotion activities.

Speak: To improve brand image and customer interaction, increase the activity of social media platforms by 20% in the next quarter by providing interesting content and partnerships with influencers (Jain and Kansel, 2023).

Save: Make efforts to retain customers such as reducing the cart abandonment rate by 10%. This can be done by special email campaigns and by improving customer experience.

Sizzle: To raise excitement about an exclusive online collection, launch a short-term digital campaign that makes use of visual components and creative storytelling to engage the audience (Gabellini, S. and Scaramuzzi, 2022).

Medium-Term Objectives (1-2 years):

Sell: An increase of 20% in the average order rate can be achieved by adding products manufactured according to sustainable practices. This can also attract customers that value eco-friendly processes (Dias et al., 2023.

Speak:  Establish and release a  podcast series about brand storytelling to make better relations with the audience. This helps to improve the  position of Burberry  as the top brand in the fashion industry and improve interaction with people.

Save: Make an increase of 20% in customer retention by introducing a loyalty program. The loyalty program should offer special benefits and better experience for customers (Sudirjo, 2023).

Sizzle: Provide a unique and engaging online shopping experience by introducing an augmented reality (AR) experience on the online platform that enables users to virtually try on products.

Long-Term Objectives (2-5 years):

Sell: Improve the position of Burberry as a leader in the fashion industry. Moreover, by offering eco-friendly products, increase the profitability by 30%

Speak: Create a virtual community where customers can take part in conversations, exchange fashion-related thoughts, and improve the reputation of the brand

Save: Reach a net promoter score (NPS) of 70 or higher, which indicates significant support from clients and satisfaction and is supported by continuous customer feedback channels (Park et al., 2022).

Sizzle:Create an initial virtual reality (VR) fashion show that crosses national boundaries to provide a unique and immersive display of the most recent collections of Burberry.

These goals are consistent with both the RACE Framework and the 5 Ss Framework because they are based on solid situational analysis (Malone et al., 2022). Key performance indicators (KPIs) such as online sales data, social media engagement rates, customer retention rates, NPS, and the impact of creative digital marketing will be used to measure the success of these goals.

Strategies

Target Markets (Personas):

Burberry’s target market is based on the behaviour of consumers, demographics and psychographics. Most consumers are those who look for the luxury brand and sustainable fashion products (Wang et al., 2023). The purpose is to enhance digital marketing to attract the consumers and meet the marketing needs.

Positioning – Online Value Proposition, Marketing Mix:

The market positioning is the strategic exercise for the establishment of the image of the brand. The market position is based on the four Ps of the market : promotion, price, place and product (Dewi and Silvyo, 2023). Burberry is focusing on the pricing strategy, positioning and distribution channels to improve market strength.

Objectives – RACE Framework:

The Race framework is the Reach, Act, Convert and engagement of consumers with the brand (Wichmann et al., 2022). The objectives of the brand with respect to Race framework is as follows.
